According to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), there are more 17,000 children in foster care in Illinois and almost 415,000 children in the foster care system nationwide. One Illinois organization is aiming to change these statistics and place more children through a series of community outreach programs.
On September 10, 2016, at the University of Illinois Chicago Campus from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., “Let It Be Us”, a non-profit adoption agency, is holding an informative presentation called the Forever Families Program. The free event features Illinois adoption recruiters and case workers who will provide a town hall-style informational meeting about foster and adoption programs. Parents with foster care experience will also be on hand speaking at the event, which is free of charge and open to anyone.
All potential parents, regardless of age, gender, or sexual orientation, are encouraged to attend and children are welcome.
The meeting is held four times per year. For more information about the meeting and other adoptive and foster parents’ events you can log onto www.letitbeus.org.
