Bode Miller’s Uphill Parenting Challenges

U.S. Olympic skier Bode Miller, who was the favorite to win the men’s downhill, is currently navigating another difficult course–a custody battle with the mother of his 11-month-old-son.
Miller finished in 8th place in his event in Sochi over the weekend. Miller seems to have already learned that there are no winners in custody disputes.
In December, after widespread media reports of a “bitter” dispute, Miller reached a temporary agreement with the baby’s mother, Sara Mc Kenna. The agreement allowed Miller to travel with his son while he competed in the World Cup ski tour across Europe. Miller was also allowed take his son to the Winter Olympics in Sochi and to Russia. The agreement gave time to the boy’s mother as well, who is studying at the University of Columbia in New York. Miller’s long term goal is seeking a permanent joint custody arrangement that will allow him to bring his son to his races.
Reportedly, Miller and McKenna also cannot agree on the name of the child. McKenna named the child Samuel Bode Miller McKenna and Miller calls the boy “Nathaniel” or “Nate,” the middle name of Miller’s recently deceased younger brother.
Miller and McKenna will back in a New York court for a conference on March 31, 2014, and the cameras will be still be on Miller.
